Sunday was a gorgeous day to run in the Shawangunks! I was happy to stretch my legs out over some easy terrain and gently rolling hills (oh the skewed perspective of someone who’s just finish Masochist…!!!) and enjoy some stunning views.
[that’s me on the right in the orange top and black skirt… giggling at the race start]
The race began with a loop around Lake Minnewaska:
and then ran a few miles on an open carriage way across the ridge to Lake Awosting.
We ran a loop around Lake Awosting and over to some cliffs we could see in the distance.
As we ran below the cliffs I wondered if we’d have a chance to run on top….
…and we did!!! From a far you could see Lake Awosting
…and even the Catskill Mountains to the North!
Lucky aid station volunteers got to hang out on the gorgeous view spot all morning!
The course then wiggled back to Lake Minnewaska to the finish. I ran the 20K in 1:48 which was a comfortable pace. I was happy to feel a nice energy in my legs after an easy recovery week since Masochist. The best part about running a 20K after a 50M is that it felt insanely short and sweet! Now it’s time to refocus on the 50M distance with the San Fran North Face Endurance Challenge just 3 weeks away!
