Mosquito Pass

On Sunday, after our successful James Peak summit run, we headed over the mountains to Leadville again. It seems like we’ve spent almost every weekend there this summer! (not a bad place to spend it though!)

A big crew of our friends were racing the Silver Rush 50 Mile trail race so we surprised them along the course near the half-way point.  Check out our photos over at our new running team website Rocky Mountain Runners (…Yes! We’ve launched a new running team! More on this later…)

While they continued on for another 25 miles, Ryan, Kea, Cassie, Kerrie & John (who raced in the Silver Rush 50M mountain bike race the day before) stretched our legs (and our lungs) up to the nearby Mosquito Pass (13,185 ft).

Kea looks out for marmots while we look out for those ugly dark clouds! Time to run down… quickly!

Sure enough, the sky opened up with hail and then a full on downpour! Cassie takes refuse from the little ice bullets!

After a good solid soak, the sun came back out to warm the day and we celebrated our teammates’ amazing finishes at the 50 mile race, including lots of personal bests and a new women’s course records! Congrats everyone!
